Bar Caffè Tripoli
About This Spot
Stepping into Bar Caffè Tripoli feels like entering a quiet moment tucked away in the heart of Matera’s bustling Piazza Vittorio Veneto. The space embraces you gently with an unassuming warmth, where the pace slows just enough to savor the city’s rhythm without hurry. Whether drawn by the sunlit terrace or the shelter of its cozy interiors on a rainy day, there’s a sense of comfort here that invites visitors to linger.
It’s the kind of place where the air carries the comforting aroma of freshly brewed coffee, mingling effortlessly with the soft crackle of early morning chatter or the low hum of afternoon pause. Locals and travelers alike find themselves drawn to the familiar, inviting routine this café offers — a moment to enjoy well-crafted coffee alongside pastries that quietly tell the story of the region.
The menu unfolds naturally within the experience — a delicate balance between sweet and savory, from tender, flaky croissants filled with subtle notes of dark chocolate or creamy amarena cherry, to the rustic charm of traditional pasticciotti and gelato that carries a hint of local sweetness. Each item feels thoughtfully prepared, a small pleasure that complements the gentle energy of the café rather than rushing it.
Service flows with a sincerity that reveals itself quietly, a friendly nod or warm smile that makes you feel part of a local ritual rather than just another visitor. At Bar Caffè Tripoli, the atmosphere is unpretentious yet rich with character, a place where the simple act of sharing a coffee becomes an understated but meaningful moment of connection.

I had some of the best croissant with Dark Chocolate (the taste is not sweet, as I like) and the one with Pistachio as well. Also cornetto with Crema e Amarena is very puffy and nice! The croissant was 1.7 euro each.

Good restaurant for breakfast. There is a wide selection of both sweet and savory pastries. Nice outdoor terrace and friendly staff.

We discovered a charming little self-service café that felt incredibly warm and welcoming. It was raining, but we were able to enjoy the cozy covered terrace. The place is cute and unpretentious, offering amazing value for the price!

An absolute must! An authentic place for a delicious and delightful stop in the middle of the day. From the warm welcome and excellent service , to the rustic beautiful décore to the delicious home made snacks and deserts from the region. Splendidt variety. Have never tasted a better gelato, and believe me I have tasted a lot of artesian ice cream around Italy! Real gem! 10 out of 10 )))

Great location in Matera. Pleasant service, and tasty food at a good price. One of the few places that were working thru the whole day. Will recommend for sure.

We were fortunate to grab a seat on the sofa, which was incredibly relaxing and comfortable. They provide a variety of fresh and delighted fruit-infused tea. An ideal place for a rest after walking around the city.
